  1. Running CommCat in the system tray

    CommCat 3.3 includes a new feature to run the program in the System Tray when it is minimized. Normally, minimizing an application keeps it on the Task Bar where you can restore it. That is fine when you want to temporarily hide a program to do something else, but when CommCat is minimized in this way, it also goes to sleep.

  2. Small World

    Two new QSXers have reminded me how small the world can be.

    Fred, KD7T, was W2OQH in Ridgewood, NJ, when I last knew him in the late 50s. As high school hams living 2 blocks from each other, we used to have fun chasing DX on 10 AM and CW when it was wide open to Europe. I can only hope the sun will cooperate again in the near future, but gone are the days of my DX-40 and 3-element beam.

  3. Back home where it is warm

    As I was leaving Cleveland yesterday there had already been 2 inches of new snow. By the end of the day more than 6 inches had accumulated. I made it out just in time!

    One of the pleasures, despite the cold, was enjoying our grandchildren who didn't mind the snow a bit. Here is a photo of our middle grandson, Jacob, on his way down the hill near their house.

  4. Brrr!

    Last night I arrived in Wooster, Ohio, for a quick visit. The temperature was 2 degrees F, quite a shock! I am pretty spoiled climate-wise...it rarely gets below 30 at home.

    Our two oldest grandsons are performing in a play, their first. I didn't want to miss it!

    I'll be on a plane headed home on Tuesday where I can thaw out!
